Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) announced the launch of 10th edition of ELECRAMA. To be held from January 18-22, 2012 in Mumbai, India, the five day expo will be the World‟s largest one-stop-shop for Power transmission and distribution, and electrical and industrial electronics.

ELECRAMA is the world’s largest electrical transmission and distribution (T&D) exhibition held biennially in Mumbai, India since 1990. From its humble beginnings in 1990 where 283 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors participated, it has attained status as the world’s largest one-stop-shop for electrical and industrial electronics. In the previous edition ELECRAMA 2010 hosted 1,243 exhibitors from 23 countries including India and attracted 105,209 footfalls into the exhibition including visitors from 120 countries.

As the largest confluence of the Power T&D sector, ranging from 110V to 1200kV, HVDC and Power Electronics, ELECRAMA offers an international framework for display, discussions and deliberations amongst global T&D fraternity comprising of business, thought leaders, technologists and professionals from the Utilities, Industry and Academia.

For the first time, Indian Government‟s three key ministries – Ministry of Power, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, and Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion – have come forward to support this signature event that has potential to catapult India on the global stage.

India, given its inherent advantage of genuine engineering talent is fast becoming the global hub for low cost or frugal engineering development. The India advantage translates to a tremendous ‘blue ocean’ growth opportunity for transnational companies by making available first world technology adaptable to all market conditions, be it price or performance parameters. This unique “Made in India” value proposition will be on full display, with estimated 95% of the Indian Electrical equipment manufacturers across the entire T&D value chain conforming to global standards come together to showcase their frugal engineering, development and manufacturing capabilities.

Commenting on the launch, Ms. Indra Prem Menon, Chairperson ELECRAMA 2012 said: “India is on the cusp of infrastructure revolution and the Power sector has a key role to play. As per government estimates, US$ 600 billion (Rs 27,00,000 crore) of planned investments in Power generation, transmission and distribution are at various stages of progress and ELECRAMA 2012 will play a huge catalyst role in bringing investors, manufacturers and decision makers together.”

“ELECRAMA 2012 will focus on current and futuristic discussions, on developing smart power grids amongst various countries, power transmission & distribution modernization and upgradation, provision of equal opportunities and access to markets. The expo will give a closer view of the Indian power economy, technology partnership opportunities and throw light on futuristic trends in supply chain, logistics and vendor capability assessment, new specifications and standards in India”, said Mr. Vimal Mahendru, President IEEMA.

Gridweek Asia

Clasma Events and IEEMA announced that the inaugural GridWeek Asia conference will take place from 16-18 January, 2012 in Mumbai, India, in conjunction with ELECRAMA 2012. A global extension of the annual GridWeek conference held in Washington, DC, each year, this event underscores the growing importance of India and Asia as evolving Smart Grid marketplaces.

“GridWeek Asia will be the most influential international gathering of Smart Grid players in Asia,” said Anto Budiardjo, President and CEO of Clasma Events, the organizer of GridWeek conferences. “Given the rapid growth of India, and the opportunities they have to build a Smart Grid infrastructure from the ground-up, there’s no better time for a meeting of Smart Grid minds in India.”
