Chandra Group: The Indian Multinational

Chandra Proteco Mukul Gupta
Mr. Mukul Gupta - President

With the legacy of more than four decades, the Chandra Group started with the small manufacturing facility at Allahabad expanding itself to Silvassa, USA and marketing/distributing offices in UAE, Europe; introducing new product range and it seems very new and fresh as if it just happened like yesterday. With the expansion and backward integration the group has evolved in itself and is regarded as one of the well-known corporate business house. However, existence of Chandra Proteco has played a very important role in the success of the group. It acts as the benchmark for other companies in terms of excellent manufacturing facility & quality enhancement issues. This gives them a sense of pride and further motivates them to work harder towards achieving the future goals keeping in mind their cultural pillars intact. The group gets the immense satisfaction in knowing that they are among very few copper companies to have such a large product portfolio and global exposure in such a short span. It is this tireless and honest hard work by the team which is setting the pace for the next big leap.

Manufacturing Facilities, Technical Forte and R&D

Delivering world class copper conductors comes from a state of the art manufacturing facility based out of Silvassa with a sprawling campus of over 525,000 sq. ft. The current plant capacity is approximately 30,000 metric tons per year. CTC and VCTC have been long awaited, indispensable components for usage in the world’s power sector as these conductors contribute towards the high performance of heavy-duty/industrial transformers. A well facilitated R&D technology centre ensures that they remain a step ahead of the competition in terms of development of technology and innovation, ensuring ever increasing value delivery to the customers. The R&D team consists of veterans from the copper industry with unmatched technical expertise of more than 30 Years. Their testing laboratories are equipped with the most modernized and accurate testing equipments to ensure that its products maintain international standards by keeping a very stringent quality control policy from the procurement of the raw materials to the final product.

Technical Innovations at Chandra Proteco

Chandra has been the first to introduce various products in the global market one of them being CTC (Continuously Transposed Conductors). CTC consists of a number of enamelled rectangular wires (5-95 strands) made into an assembly. These are used in winding for medium to ultra-high power transformers. CTC is manufactured by OFHC (Oxygen Free High Conductivity) copper rods. Apart from normal CTC which has the insulation of paper, they are able to supply polyester net/roped CTC specially designed to reduce production cost, oil pocket & to improve cooling efficiency. Further Chandra has been first in India & Asia Pacific to develop certain alloyed copper rods & wires for the railways & other electrical applications.
