MSEDCL to lay 400 km underground cables

June 29, 2013

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has proposed laying 400 km of underground cables at a cost of Rs 22 crore in the Nashik urban circle to get rid of the dense network of electricity cables stretched over poles across the city.

The power company has already laid over 500 km of underground cable in the urban circle. The works have been undertaken only in the densely populated areas to reduce hazards and lower the chances of power failures due to rains, etc.

According to officials, in the infra-II plan, the utility has proposed 240 km of works in urban-I division, which includes nearly 30 km of underground high tension lines (33 kV and 11 kV) and 210 km of low tension lines (440 V and 220 V). The urban-II division has also proposed laying of 160 km of lines, including 15 km of high tension and 145 km of low tension lines. The tendering process of the project will begin soon.
