ABB has won an order worth over USD 100 million from Energinet.dk, the Danish transmission system operator, to build an alternating current (AC) cable system that will enable the integration and transmission of power from the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm to the mainland grid. 600 megawatt (MW) cable system will enable transmission of energy from Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to the mainland.

As Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm it will help to increase the country’s wind power capacity to over 40 percent, capable of providing electricity to meet the demand of over 600,000 homes.

Wind energy is a cornerstone of Denmark’s Green Energy plan to become fossil fuel free by 2050. The planned 600MW wind farm will help strengthen regional energy markets and increase the security of supply by boosting transmission capacity.

“Cable links are playing a key role in integrating renewable energy into the grid and transmitting clean electricity to millions of people. This is very much in line with our vision of facilitating power and productivity for a better world,” said Claudio Facchin, President, ABB Power Systems division.
