A leading manufacturer of wire rope and specialty steel in the country, Usha Martin makes wire rope in India, UK, Thailand, Dubai and Bangkok. The Kolkata-based firm had reported a consolidated net loss of Rs.109.2 Crore in the quarter ended December 2016.

Nexans Subsea Cable to Link Hornsea Project One Offshore Wind Farm

DONG Energy Wind Power chooses Nexans subsea cable and placed an order for 139 km of three-phase 34 kV subsea cable for the array cabling of the first construction phase of the 1.2 gigawatt wind farm. This first stage of the wind farm is expected to be operational within approximately three years and to produce 406 MW (1.2 GW for all three construction stages).

 

Digital India Initiative to Connect All Gram Panchayats through OFC

Internet services expected to be provided to 2.5 lakh gram panchayats will promote and strengthen “less cash economy”. As on January 29, 2017, Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) has been laid to 76,089 gram panchayats with a total length of 1,72,257 km. As many as 16,355 gram panchayats have been provided with broadband connectivity.

 

Power Grid bags a Contract worth Rs 888.96 Crore for Electrification of 761 km of Railway Line

The Indian Railways’ plan to electrify 24,000 kms of railway lines in the next five years is a huge opportunity for state-run Power Grid Corporation (PGCIL) for providing its expertise through consultation as well as complete turnkey project development. The Indian Railways has set a target of electrifying 2,000 km in FY17, 4,000 km in FY18 and 6,000 km annually during FY19-FY21.

The funds allocation for BharatNet Project stepped up to Rs 10,000 crore in 2017-18 to aid in high speed broadband connectivity through optical fiber which will be available in more than 150,000 gram panchayats, with Wi-Fi hot spots and access to digital services at low tariffs.
