SAMP 1
Michelagelo Mantovani & Nagesh Siddapoor Venkatesh

SAMP S.p.A., a company of the Maccaferri Industrial Group, started its operations in the year 1936 for the steel industry and then slowly diversified into other segments. The company is now made up of three business units: Samputensili, which produces gear manufacturing machines and tools; Sampingranaggi, which produces high-precision gears and gearboxes; and Sampsistemi, which produces machinery and solutions for the wire and cable manufacturing industry.

With a history of more than 7 decades, the Italian company SAMP has manufacturing plants in Italy and China and service and spare parts offices in the USA and Russia. Moreover, SAMP has recently opened a sales office in India, managed by Nagesh Siddapoor Venkatesh as Director and Michelangelo Mantovani as responsible of Indian operations along with two service technicians. We had an interview with Mr. Nagesh and his colleagues at the booth.

About technical capabilities of SAMP

Our technical capabilities are related to three areas, i.e. drawing technology, bunching/laying up and extrusion lines. Drawing technology comprises a complete line of state-of-the-art solutions for drawing copper, aluminum and relative alloys. Bunching/laying up supplies a complete range of double twist bunchers to strand copper and aluminum wires and lay up insulated conductors. At SAMP, we supply a complete range of machines and equipment for wire production, along with whole gamut of products to cover any cable manufacturing requirement such as telecom, LAN & coaxial cables for telecommunications to the production of cables for means of transport; construction; electronics; signal and power cables Medium High Voltage included.

Plans for Indian Wire & Cable Industry

India is one of the most important and fastest growing economies in the world and we have a lot of customers to serve here. We are very proud to announce the recent opening of an office in Bangalore with personnel having a considerable cable experience and know-how along with two well-trained service engineers. The future will be interesting here and our idea is to provide our Indian customers with the best technology and service available on the market. Our strategy in the medium term is to start local manufacturing and assembling in order to become more competitive within the Indian market. This will for sure involve co-operations with Indian companies in the field of manufacturing and assembly. Presently we are aiming at reaching a market share in India that befits SAMP’s role of technology leader worldwide.

Our key areas of focus will be building wire, low voltage cables together with wire drawing machines, extrusion lines and bunchers. The products that we will sell in India will be manufactured either in our Italian or in our Chinese facilities, depending on the customer requirements.

India is a price sensitive market, your comment on this?

SAMP’s main target is to provide our customers with technical know-how and state-of-the-art solutions. Price for us comes at second place: if you offer the solution that perfectly meets the customer’s requirements, the machine can repay the investor in a shorter timespan, thanks to the machine devices that allow power savings, material savings and zero preventive maintenance. This is our company’s philosophy: when you deliver real value and know-how, price is not the fundamental thing, rather how much the customer can save and produce, thus getting a very fast return on investment (ROI).

What are the major technical breakthroughs and innovations you have introduced or plan to introduce?

The main innovations that we are introducing are basically:

•  Solutions to reduce energy consumption and its impact on the environment.

•  No more gearboxes with DC motors, but rather integrated systems with added value.

•  The idea that any SAMP machine or line must be very intuitive for the operator, easy and fast to run up, easy and simple to use.

I can confirm that our technology has already made a breakthrough in order to achieve the above described targets.
