Nevatia Steel & Alloys Pvt. Ltd., incorporated in 1988, manufactures stainless steel wire for international market and exports to countries such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, etc. With 45 years of experience in steel and cement industries, the company underwent expansion drive in 1995 diversifying its product portfolio into stainless steel Bright Bars and fine wires under the stewardship of Mr. Nikhil Nevatia, Executive Director, Nevatia Steel. Wire & Cable India, recently, sat down with Mr. Nevatia for an exhaustive interview where he gave his thoughts on a wide range of topics concerning his company and the wire & cable industry. Here is the marrow of the interview WCI did with him:
Wire & Cable India: Tell us about Nevatia Steel & Alloys.

Nikhil Nevatia: Nevatia Steel is India’s oldest stainless steel wire mill that started in 1988 and the first to obtain the triple accreditation of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Nevatia Steel manufactures and exports stainless steel wires to over 40 countries.

Stainless steel wire is produced in a variety of grades and in size range of 0.10 mm to 10.00 mm diameter. These wires have myriads of applications in making round springs, screws, nails, sieves, wire mesh, fasteners, staples, wall ties, kitchenware, and EPQ for baskets and trolleys. Nevatia Steel also produces welding consumables like MIG filler wire, TIG filler wire, Submerged Arc Wire and Core wire for welding electrodes as per AWS and EN standards. Stainless steel wires are also used diversely in automotive, marine, petrochemical (oil and gas), food, welding and paper industries.

Our specialty includes stainless steel welding wire – mainly NEVINOX brand MIG and TIG Filler Wire, Submerged Arc Welding Wire (SAW) and Core wire for electrodes. NEVINOX MIG and TIG Welding Filler Wires are approved by Bureau Veritas, TUV Germany, Deutsche Bahn and the CE Mark. Nevinox MIG Wire is also available in drums for automatic welding and robotic welding.

WCI: What are the existing facilities in your company?

NN: Plants are equipped with sophisticated solution annealing and pickling facilities, multiple wire drawing machines, bull blocks, and wet drawing machines. We have precision layer winding machines for MIG, SAW, and TIG wires in drums. There are straightening and embossing machines for TIG wire. We have state-of-the-art German designed continuous bright annealing furnaces and ammonia cracker plants to ensure the inert atmosphere for producing bright wires. And, there are the effluent treatment plants for ensuring environmental preservation.

WCI: What are the new developments in the company?

NN: The Company started producing stainless steel MIG and TIG wire from last five years. After successful launching of these products, we have started expanding the range of welding products. We are currently supplying various products like MIG, TIG, Core wire, SAW Wire and MIG wire in drums. Nevinox brand is approved by Bureau Veritas, TUV Germany, Deutsche Bahn, CE Mark and becoming increasingly popular with customers in Europe, USA, and India including automotive customers. In coming months, we plan on upgrading our ISO 9001 certification to T/S 16949 certification mainly aimed at our automotive customers all over the world.

WCI: What difference do you find between the International and Indian market in terms of demand?

NN: India’s per capita consumption for steel is low; for stainless steel, it is still lower. In the well developed economies such as Europe and USA, the demand for stainless steel wire is high. However, now with Indian economy poised for high growth and awareness among people about the wonder of stainless steel, India is expected to be the fastest growing market for these products.

WCI: Tell us something about the growth of Nevatia Steel & Alloys over the last five years.

NN: Nevatia Steel has added several new products to its portfolio in last five years such as MIG, TIG, and SAW wires, among other products for automotive usage. We have also started sales within India in a big way and the share of domestic business has grown from 3-4 percent about five years ago to almost 20 percent this year.

WCI: What is special about Nevatia stainless steel wires?

NN: Nevatia steel wires are manufactured in compliance with International standards of quality and are in accordance with customer’s stringent specifications. Strict supervision at the every step of production process ensures tight control on quality. We have a good team, who has years of experience and knowledge which helps us in maintaining our edge over the competition.

WCI: How does Nevatia Steel & Alloys match up to competitiveness of the industry?

NN: By using state-of-the-art machinery and technology, we aim for reduction in the machine-idle time, reduction in re-work & rejection, and better efficiency. Moreover, years of experience behind helps us greatly in being more competitive in the market.

WCI: Do you wish to share new updates in terms of products and services that we should be looking forward to?

NN: We are quite committed to enhancing our range of welding and spring wires among other value-added products in coming years. We are sure to undertake the development of different types of stainless steel products such as duplex, PH, super duplex, etc.

Nevatia Steel aims to be one of the leading producers of stainless steel wire by providing a complete range of products to meet changing needs of customers by continuously improving all processes and according the highest importance to safety, environment and regulatory issues.

WCI: What, according to you, can be potential opportunities for Nevatia Steel & Alloys?

NN: With immense focus on diversification of products as well as geographical base of customers, we are not dependant on any one market region or product type. We have built a base of hundreds of customers spread over 40 countries across the globe. Opportunities are immense and we are excited for the coming future.

WCI: Lastly, what does Nevatia Steel & Alloys thrive for in the coming years?
