REELEX’s Tangle-Free Packaging has Global Reach

“The coil packaging solution – REELEX is rapidly becoming popular in the US for its use in packaging building wire. The company has over 80 licensees operating in over 20 countries.”

As the sole provider of REELEX® tangle and twist-free reel-less coiling technology, REELEX Packaging Solutions, Inc. of Patterson, NY continues to expand the range of reel-less packaging options available to manufacturers. Having established itself as the preferred packaging method for “last-mile” lengths of low-voltage cabling, REELEX provides manufacturers with nearly unlimited ways to present and package their products.

REELEX is a patented method of winding any flexible filamentary material into a figure-eight coil. This unique coil dispenses from the inside-out without twists, tangles, snags or overruns. Because the coil does not rotate during payout, there is no inertia, and thus no need for stands or brakes. And since the coil does not require any moving parts as a means of dispensing the product, it may be packaged in a wide variety of package shapes and materials, or simply placed in a cardboard box.

The REELEX coiling concept was first unveiled in World War II as a means for rapidly deploying cable in the battlefield. However, because the concept was still in development by the end of World War II, REELEX was not adopted before the war ended. During the 1960s and 1970s, it was again reviewed by the military for special projects and was approached to develop tangle, twist and rotation-free dispensing technologies for various communications projects including improved ways to deploy communications cable in the battlefield.

REELEX’s unique patented coiling technology creates a figure-eight coil that dispenses without tangles, twist or rotation.

Today, the coil packaging solution has evolved into the standard packaging method for a variety of structured cabling and other low voltage products, and is rapidly becoming popular in the US for use in packaging building wire. REELEX has over 80 licensees operating in over 20 countries.

While REELEX has become the preferred package for a variety of cables, the coiling method has beneficial applications for a wide variety of products. “We encourage manufacturers of everything from fiber optics to welding wire to consider REELEX as a superior packaging method,” says Timothy Copp, VP of Business Development for REELEX. “Because the REELEX coil can be packaged in a variety of container shapes, sizes and materials, the coil allows manufacturers to leverage their own creativity and innovation to create a unique delivery platform for their product.”
