Becoming the first Union Territory to offer its power distribution company for complete privatization, Chandigarh had earlier issued a tender inviting bids for the same. Privatization of DISCOMs was part of Centre’s Aatmnirbhar Bharat plan announced in May for economic revival.

As reported in a leading daily, UT Adviser Mr. Manoj Parida has stated that the ‘Request for Proposal’ had so far been issued to 18 intended bidders, including Torrent Power Limited, Adani Transmission Limited, Tata Power Company Limited, GMR Generation Asset Limited, India Power Corporation Limited, DNH Power Distribution Corporation Limited, NTPC Electricity Supply Limited (NESCL), Sterlite Power and CESC Limited.

Mr. Parida also mentioned that more firms were expected to take part in the electricity distribution in the UT. The last date to submit the tender is February 8 and the bids are likely to be opened the same day.
