Power Grid Corporation Successfully Commissions 40-Kms Transmission Line in Ladakh

Power Grid has successfully commissioned 40-kms of 11 kV transmission line to ensure reliable power supply in remote villages of Ladakh.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has commissioned a 40-kilometer transmission line successfully in Ladakh. Under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme, Power Grid has connected Lalung, Silmoo, Batalik, Darchik, Hurdass, Sinikcey, and Garkon and adjoining villages between Lalung to Darchik.

With this, all villages in the Aryan Valley of Kargil district are now connected to the National Grid through the 220kV Srinagar-Leh transmission line. In addition, electrification of twenty other villages like Largiab, in Nubra valley of Leh district was also completed by the Power Grid Corporation.

Similarly, different 11kV lines distancing to the tune of 150 kilometers have also connected Wanla to Fotoksar, Lamayuru to Atishe and Fotorse and Saspol established by the Corporation have connected all the villages en route.

Power Grid has built the state of art 220/66kV gas-insulated Sub-Stations at Drass, Kargil, Khaltsi, and Leh connecting the Ladakh region to the National Grid through 341 kilometers of 220kV Transmission line emanating from Srinagar.

The rural electrification in the difficult terrain also helped in a step towards carbon neutrality by setting diesel generator sets aside in these villages. Reliable power connectivity from the grid also will help in economic development in remote villages in the Ladakh region.
