RailTel Corporation Wins INR 86.90 Crore Project from Konkan Railway

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, under the ownership of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, has secured an order worth INR 86.90 crore from Konkan Railway Corporation.

Within the project, the PSU telecom infrastructure provider will design and will provide its services for supply, installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of the integrated communication system. The project has been given the target to be concluded within a period of 18 months.

RailTel, a “Mini Ratna (Category-I)” state-owned company, is an information and communications technology (ICT) provider and one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers in the country owning a Pan-India optic fibre network on exclusive Right of Way (ROW) along Railway track. The Optical Fibre Cable network covers important towns and cities of the country and several rural areas.

Also, RailTel Corporation has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) contract with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) to work closely together in a number of areas for the further expansion of the telecom sector in the country.

For the Indian Railways, the telecom company undertakes various projects including provision of mission-critical connectivity services like IP-based video surveillance systems at stations, ‘e-Office’ services, and implementing short haul and long haul connectivity. At present, the optic fibre network of RailTel spans across more than 60,000 route km and more than 6053 railway stations across India.
