Around 300 ckt km of transmission lines and a Greenfield substation will be established across Assam and Meghalaya.

Sterlite Power Transmission has acquired the Nangalbibra-Bongaigaon Transmission, an inter-state power transmission project, from PFC Consulting. The acquisition of Nangalbibra-Bongaigaon Transmission Ltd., a special purpose vehicle (SPV), is announced two months after Sterlite Power had emerged as the top bidder for the project in North-East India.

The project includes establishing around 300 ckt km of transmission lines network and Greenfield substation with 320 MVA transformation capacity across the North-Eastern terrain of Assam and Meghalaya. It also includes setting up 250 ckt km of 400kV D/c transmission line linking Bongaigaon, Assam to a Greenfield substation at Nangalbibra, Meghalaya, across the river Brahmaputra.

A 220/132 kV substation will be established at Nangalbibra in Meghalaya, and about 50 ckt km of 132kV D/c line connecting Hatsinghmari, Assam to Ampati, Meghalaya. Thus, with the power project, over 1000 MW of power will be transmitted from Assam to the western parts of Meghalaya.

“Apart from bringing the additional power flow, the project will also help in decongesting the downstream networks in the region, thereby improving the quality and reliability of power flow in North-East India,” Sterlite Power Transmission said in a statement.
