Rajnandini Metal to Establish a New Manufacturing Facility

“We have recently acquired 3 acres of land which will be developed into a fully-functioning wires and cables plant. The plan is to establish an extensive manufacturing facility which also includes the production of our B2C products like LEDs, and housing cables & wires”, says Mr. Ashok Kalra, Executive Director, Rajnandini Metal Ltd.

With the use of sophisticated technology and imported machinery, Rajnandini Metal Ltd. manufactures and supplies high-grade copper continuous casting rods, annealed bare copper wires, fine and superfine copper wires, bunched copper wires, and multi-stranded copper wires that are known for their high electrical and thermal conductivity. It also manufactures high-quality poly-wrapped submersible winding wire under the brand name ‘RML Wires & Cables’ besides manufacturing house wiring cables. Currently, the company is working on the cables that can be used in electric vehicles. WCI interviewed Mr. Ashok Kalra, Executive Director, Rajnandini Metal Ltd., to know more about the journey of the company and its future plans.

Wire & Cable India: Tell us about the business journey of your company and the notable milestones so far.

Ashok Kalra: Our company was established as a private limited company namely Rajnandini Metal Pvt. Ltd. under the Companies Act 1956 on 18 March 2010. Later, our company was incorporated as a public limited company in pursuance of a special resolution passed by the members of our company at the extraordinary general meeting. A fresh certificate of incorporation consequent to conversion was issued on 14 March 2018, by the Registrar of Companies, NCT of Delhi and Haryana. Consequently, the name of our Company was changed from ‘Rajnandini Metal Pvt. Ltd.’ to ‘Rajnandini Metal Ltd.’ In 2019, we launched our first B2C product which was copper winding wires. We escalated the production and were able to acquire the pan-Indian market within a year.

WCI: Please shed some light on the product portfolio along with its key features.

AK: Our company has a full-fledged drawing plant under the name ‘RML Wires & Cables’ for further processing of CCR produced. Our products vary from B2B to B2C categories that majorly includes-copper rods, annealed bare copper wires, fine copper wires, multi-stranded copper cables, bunched copper wires, submersible wires & flat cables, and house wires. All of our products are manufactured considering high-quality standards and pass through various in-house quality testing parameters.

WCI: Kindly take us through the manufacturing setup, R&D, and the production capabilities of the company.

AK: Rajnandini Metal Pvt. Ltd. has an in-house drawing plant for further processing of the copper rods. Our manufacturing plant produces about 1800-2000 metric tons of products every month. We have a wide range of machinery for the same. With the capability of these high-tech machines, we have the capacity to draw the copper wires up to super fine sizes ranging from 0.2 mm – 0.5 mm. We further have different bunchers for stranding the copper wires from 4 sq mm to 16 sq mm.

Our distant vision for RML also ropes in the automotive industry where we will get into lithium battery wire production which is definitely one of the growth drivers for the future of the cable & wires industry.

WCI: What are your recent developments and future plans?

AK: Well, we have recently acquired 3 acres of land which will soon be developed into a fully-functioning wires and cables plant. The plan is to establish an extensive manufacturing facility which also includes the production of our B2C products like LEDs, housing cables and wires, electrical accessories, lights, MCBs, and much more.

WCI: As a manufacturer of a range of copper wires, share your outlook on the Indian copper wire market along with the growth drivers of the segment.

AK: We have been seeing a major development in the infrastructure of our country recently. With most of these projects being engineered into smart cities and infrastructure miracles, the demand for copper wires and rods is set to skyrocket in the coming years. Our distant vision for RML also ropes in the automotive industry where we will get into lithium battery wire production which is definitely one of the growth drivers for the future of the wire & cable industry in India.
