Fugro Wins Survey Contract for One of the Biggest Wind Farm Projects in Mediterranean Sea

Renexia accords Fugro a survey contract for the Med Wind Floating Wind Farm, in the Strait of Sicily. After gaining the essential Geo-data from the site, the analysis results will enable to achieve geohazard risk alleviation and identify a safe route for installing the export cables.

Renexia, a TOTO Holding initiative, has decided to award Fugro a survey contract for the Med Wind Floating Wind Farm right in the Strait of Sicily. The project is all set to be one of the biggest renewable energy projects the Mediterranean Sea region has witnessed. With approximately190 floating turbines that are presumed to uphold the installed capacity of 2.8 GW, this renewable plant is going to be one of its kind.

Fugro’s portion of the deal would be to provide Renexia with detailed marine geophysical and environmental surveys, install state-of-the-art equipment, and arrange specialised personnel to accumulate comprehensive Geo-data at the proposed wind farm location and the two proposed export cable corridors.

Once Fugro succeeds in acquiring the essential Geo-data from the site’s water depths of 300 metre to 900 metre, the analysis results will further be used to advise on geohazard risk alleviation and aid in identifying a safe route for installing the two export cables. These results will also be fed into the finalised integrated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application to Italy’s Ministry of Energy Transition.
