Prysmian Group awarded two grid connection projects in the Netherlands worth EUR 1.8 billion by TenneT

Energy and telecom cable systems industry leader Prysmian Group bagged contracts worth approximately EUR 1.8 billion by Dutch transmission system operator TenneT for two grid connection projects, IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 to link two future offshore wind farms located in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland located in the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Prysmian Group is in charge of designing, engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning of two 525 kV HVDC submarine and land cable systems and all related accessories for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 offshore wind farms, for a total of 4 GW capacity. The delivery of the first connection is scheduled for 2029, whereas the second is scheduled for 2030.

World leader in energy and telecom cable systems industry, Prysmian Group got awarded contracts worth approximately EUR 1.8 billion in aggregate by Dutch transmission system operator TenneT for two grid connection projects, IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 to link two future offshore wind farms located in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland located in the southwestern part of the Netherlands. This will be the first ever 525 kv XLPC HVDC submarine cable systems to deliver in total 4 gw of clean energy from Dutch north sea to the Netherlands.

Prysmian Group is in charge of designing, engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning of two 525 kV HVDC submarine and land cable systems and all related accessories for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 offshore wind farms, for a total of 4 GW capacity. Prysmian Group’s centres of excellence in Pikkala (Finland) and Arco Felice (Italy) will manufacture the submarine cables, while land cables will be produced in Gron (France). Marine installation operations will be performed by Prysmian`s state-of-the-art cable laying vessels and in partnership with Deme Group, a global solutions provider in the offshore renewables industry.

The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 projects are the first projects where Prysmian Group deploys its breakthrough 525 kV offshore cable technology, specifically designed to support the energy transition with key features that enable a massive increase in transmission capacity to 2 GW, more than double the value achieved with 320 kV DC systems currently in service. The total value of Prysmian’s order book is increased by the contracts’ aggregate value, to nearly EUR 8.5 billion. The signing ceremony will take place on March 7, 2023 in the presence of Prysmian and Tennet officials, and the delivery of the first connection is scheduled for 2029, whereas the second is scheduled for 2030.
