Kenya Invests USD 37 Million to Expand its Last-Mile OFC Connectivity

Kenya’s central authorities have contracted to expand the last-mile OFC connectivity in the country to the underserved and unserved counties at an investment of USD 37 million.

Kenyan central authorities have contracted to expand its last-mile OFC connectivity.

The ICT Authority (ICTA) and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) have entered into an agreement to expand the OFC network connectivity in underserved or unserved counties. The Universal Service Fund (USF) will fuel the agreement with USD 37 million investment. The project will also contribute to the Government Digital Transformation Agenda’s (GoDTA) goal of deploying 100,000 kilometers of OFC.

The Universal Service Fund (USF)’s goals include aiding projects for better communication and infrastructure in underserved and unserved counties.

The 19 counties identified are Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Lamu, Kilifi, Kwale, Kitui, Laikipia, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Kitui, Makueni, and Narok.
