The Government of India has announced that the data centre capacity in the country has grown from 375 MW in 2020 to more than 1500 MW. In line with this vision, the Centre is democratising the development and usage of technology.

Currently, there are 4 submarine cable systems being commissioned at various Cable Landing Stations (CLS) by different Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). These include India Europe Xpress (IEX) submarine cable system by Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, SEA-ME-WE-6 and 2Africa undertaken by Bharti Airtel Ltd (BAL), Raman Cable by Sify Technologies Ltd (Sify). These projects are located in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Apart from these, there are 3 submarine cable systems that are under planning that comprise Wyasa Cable System in Chennai, Tamil Nadu; Indian Ocean Cable (IOC) in Raigad, Maharashtra and WABAN Cable System in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Applications have been submitted by Tata Communications Ltd (TCL), Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), and Sify Technologies Ltd (Sify) respectively for these projects.
