LS Cable & System recently announced that it has signed a contract worth approximately USD 114 million (160 billion won) to supply submarine cables for the Formosa 4 project.

LS Cable & System won its first submarine cable contract in Taiwan in 2019, and has since won all projects in the first phase of commercialization (eight in total). Following the first project of Phase 2, Fengmiao, LS Cable & System has consolidated its position by winning consecutive orders for Formosa 4.
“LS Cable & System has accumulated business experience in Taiwan by cooperating with major global developers such as Ørsted and CIP,” said a company official, “and these successive orders are the result of this experience and trust.”
LS Cable & System’s competitiveness in Taiwan has been extended to its subsidiary LS Marine Solution. In April, LS Marine Solution won a submarine cable laying contract in Taiwan, becoming the first Korean submarine contractor to expand overseas. The ‘production and construction’ value chain has been fully operationalized based on LS Cable & System’s global network.

Taiwan plans to secure 5.7 GW of offshore wind power by 2025 and add 15 GW by 2035, totaling more than 20 GW. Accordingly, the market for submarine cable materials and construction alone is expected to grow to more than KRW 5 trillion in the future, and LS Cable & System is accelerating its lead with LS Marine Solution.
