LS Cable & System Secures Deal for Japan–Korea Submarine Cable Network

LS Cable & System and  LS Marine Solution win Korea’s first turnkey contract for an international submarine network, JAKO, in partnership with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Arteria Networks (Japan), and Dreamline (Korea). The project will be completed by 2027.

LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution have announced their role in building the Japan–Korea (JAKO) submarine cable, in partnership with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Arteria Networks (Japan), and Dreamline (Korea). This marks the first time a Korean firm has won a turnkey contract for an international submarine communication network.

The 260 km fiber-optic link between Busan and Fukuoka will be constructed from 2025 and completed by 2027. LS Cable & System will handle EPC, while LS Marine Solution will carry out submarine cable installation.

“This project marks a meaningful milestone for Korean industry,” said Joo Wan-seop, EVP of LS Cable & System. “We will continue to expand our global partnerships and grow our submarine infrastructure business.” The project is expected to meet rising data demands driven by AI and cloud growth, and bolster Korea’s status as a global data hub.
