WCI: International trade fairs play a crucial role in shaping industry collaborations. How do platforms like WIRE Düsseldorf help Indian manufacturers connect with global markets and customers?

KB: WIRE Düsseldorf provides a unique global meeting point where technology providers, OEMs, and end users interact face-to-face. For Indian manufacturers like Mikrotek, it enables us to present our engineering capabilities directly to decision-makers and understand real-time customer challenges. WIRE Düsseldorf is ultimately about meeting customers face-to-face and understanding their real production challenges. For us, it is less about exhibiting products and more about listening to wire and cable manufacturers, their needs for higher speeds, longer die life, better surface finish, and lower downtime.

These direct interactions help us offer customized solutions rather than standard products. Customers can evaluate our technology firsthand, discuss specific applications, and build confidence in our service and technical support. Such platforms create trust, shorten decision cycles, and help us become long-term solution partners to global customers, not just suppliers.

WCI: From your participation at WIRE Düsseldorf, what key global market insights are you hoping to gain and bring back to strengthen India’s wire and cable manufacturing ecosystem?

KB: We aim to understand evolving requirements around high-speed drawing, ultra-fine wires, sustainability, and automation. Global customers are demanding higher productivity, longer tool life, and energy efficiency. Insights into new conductor materials, advanced lubricants, and smart manufacturing practices will help us upgrade our designs and processes in India.

Our goal is to bring back these learnings and integrate them into product innovation, benefiting not just Mikrotek but the broader Indian wire and cable ecosystem.

We believe that sharing expertise builds India’s image as a serious engineering and solutions hub.

WCI: Over the years, how have you seen India’s representation evolve at international trade fairs, and how do you contribute to strengthening India’s image as a global engineering hub?

KB: Earlier, Indian participation was mostly price-driven. Today, it is technology- and quality-driven. Indian companies are increasingly recognized for precision engineering, reliability, and innovation.

At Mikrotek, we contribute by delivering globally benchmarked quality standards, exporting to multiple countries, and positioning ourselves as a knowledge partner through technical seminars, symposiums, and customer training programs. We believe that sharing expertise builds India’s image as a serious engineering and solutions hub.

WCI: What core Indian manufacturing strengths differentiate you on the global stage? For what turnkey solutions is the world looking at India?

KB: India’s strengths lie in engineering talent, flexible manufacturing, cost efficiency, and the ability to customize solutions quickly.

Mikrotek offers end-to-end die solutions, from new dies and inserts to reconditioning, polishing equipment, consumables, and technical support. Customers prefer suppliers who can handle the complete die lifecycle rather than just individual components. This turnkey approach, combined with competitive costs and quality, makes India an attractive global sourcing destination.

WCI: Technology partnerships and acquisitions are critical today. How are Indo-global collaborations helping reinforce India’s engineering leadership?

KB: Collaborations allow knowledge exchange and faster innovation. By working closely with global wire drawing machine manufacturers, lubricant suppliers, and industry experts, we align our die technology with evolving process requirements.

Such partnerships improve product performance and ensure compatibility with international standards. Indo-global collaboration helps Indian companies move up the value chain from manufacturing to technology leadership.

WCI: Which international regions do you see as strategic growth markets, and how is India positioned as your global manufacturing base to support these expansions?

KB: The American and European markets continue to be our primary strategic focus, driven by modernization of power infrastructure, renewable energy projects, EV mobility, and increasing demand for high-performance specialty cables. These regions require consistent quality, precision tooling, and reliable technical support — areas where Mikrotek adds strong value.

At the same time, we see significant growth opportunities in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and emerging economies where new wire and cable capacities are being established.

India serves as our global manufacturing hub, supported by skilled engineering talent, strong process control, and scalable production capabilities. This allows us to deliver world-class quality with competitive lead times and costs, enabling us to efficiently support customers across all these regions from a single, reliable base.

WCI: How are cost pressures across raw materials, energy, or logistics being managed without compromising product reliability or compliance?

KB: We focus on operational efficiency and process optimization rather than cost cutting.By improving yield, reducing waste, standardizing processes, and investing in precision manufacturing, we control costs while maintaining quality.

Long-lasting dies also reduce customers’ downtime and replacement frequency, creating overall cost savings. Reliability and compliance are non-negotiable, and we ensure all products meet international standards.

WCI: How are sustainability expectations from customers or regulators translating into changes in product design, manufacturing practices, or material choices?

KB: Sustainability is becoming a key design parameter. Our longer-life dies reduce material consumption and waste. We also focus on energy-efficient manufacturing, recycling practices, and responsible sourcing of raw materials.
From a customer perspective, efficient dies help reduce power consumption, downtime and lubricant use during drawing operations, contributing to lower environmental impact. We see sustainability not just as compliance but as an opportunity to create smarter, more efficient solutions.
