The HIFL initiative forms a core part of Hawaii’s Connect Kākou broadband program. Stretching approximately 740 kilometers, the undersea network will link Oahu, Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, and Molokai, and will be equipped with 24 fiber pairs to support future capacity needs.

Under the partnership, Prysmian will deliver the submarine cable, while International Telecom will handle engineering and installation. Ocean Networks will oversee the system’s supply, construction, operation, and maintenance. The project is being managed in collaboration with the University of Hawaii System Office for Information Technology, with additional support from the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii.
