Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has acquired MEL Power Transmission Limited from PFC Consulting to develop a 400kV, 110 km transmission line linking the 1,200 MW Mahan plant to Rewa pooling station, at an estimated cost of INR 558 crore.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has acquired project SPV ‘MEL Power Transmission Limited’ from PFC Consulting Limited. The project aims to establish a 400kV double-circuit transmission line of approximately 110 km, connecting the 1,200-megawatt Mahan thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh (owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power) to PGCIL’s Rewa pooling station.

This marks PGCIL’s first Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project acquisition under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route for the current financial year (FY25-26). The estimated cost of the project is around INR 558 crore.
The project will enable long-term ISTS connectivity under the CERC GNA regulations, replacing the existing short-term arrangement. PGCIL secured the bid against Adani Energy Solutions, GR Infraprojects, and MEIL.

MEL Power Transmission Limited was incorporated in November 2024, and PGCIL received the letter of intent on April 1, 2025. This becomes the second ISTS-TBCB scheme formally acquired in FY26, following Adani Energy Solutions Ltd’s acquisition of WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission.
