Stahl Gerlafingen, part of the AFV Beltrame Group and Switzerland’s largest producer of recycled steel, has achieved a significant boost in production performance following a successful wire rod mill upgrade by Primetals Technologies. The company recently received the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for the modernization project.

The upgrade introduced a 6th-generation laying head equipped with advanced tension monitoring and a new automation system. These state-of-the-art improvements have delivered measurable benefits, including reduced heavy vibrations, the elimination of unexpected shutdowns, and an increase in production utilization and yield.

In addition, coil quality has been enhanced, enabling Stahl Gerlafingen to achieve higher production speeds, greater process stability, and improved overall product quality.
