Led by Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL), the initiative aims to enhance safety, cut outages during monsoons, and reduce maintenance costs. With only 1,300 km of UG cables currently installed, the state will adopt Bengaluru’s horizontal drilling model to limit road damage and minimize public disruption during installation.

The government expects the project to save INR 500 crore annually by lowering transmission losses, theft, and upkeep. Funding options under consideration include loans from the Asian Development Bank and central schemes. Implementation will span 4–5 years in phases, with coordination across city utilities and traffic authorities. Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has emphasized the project’s long-term value despite logistical challenges.
