NKT Signs EUR 2.2 Billion Order for Power Cable Project, ‘Eastern Green Link 3’

With a value of more than EUR 2.2 billion, this remains the largest contract to date for a single cable project for NKT and will support the reinforcement of the UK transmission grid after its commissioning, expected at the end of 2033.

NKT has signed a firm contract for the HVDC power cable system for Eastern Green Link 3 with a joint venture between the UK grid owners National Grid and SSEN Transmission. This order is the largest single project award ever received by NKT and will support the reinforcement of the UK transmission grid.

With a value of more than EUR 2.2 billion, the EGL3 order is the largest contract for a single cable project in NKT’s history, and it has now been added to the high-voltage order backlog. The project comprises a turnkey scope to design, manufacture, and install a 525 kV HVDC power cable system with a route length of around 680 km, including both onshore and offshore cable sections. The joint venture will manage the civil works for the project including cable design, engineering, and production. The total capacity of the project is up to 2 GW, and is scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2033 . EGL3 will play a central role in ensuring an affordable, reliable and clean power supply in the UK.  by removing bottlenecks in the transmission grid.
