The Indian Railways has sanctioned three projects in Northern Railway worth INR 400.86 crore. These projects will strengthen the communication backbone infrastructure for the railway sector.

The work includes laying 2×48 fibre cables across three divisions: 926.05 route km of fibre cables at Ambala Division at the cost of INR 115.74 crore, 1,204 route km OFC in Delhi Division, along with OFC rooms, worth INR 165.49 crore. And lastly, 1,074 route km of fibre cable at Lucknow Division at the project cost of INR 119.63 crore.
Furthermore, North Central Railway has received approval for laying 2×48 fibre OFC cables worth INR 176.77 crore. This project will cover 2,196 route kilometres including Prayagraj (1,016 km), Jhansi (709 km), and Agra (471 km). This OFC network will directly support Kavach deployment on high-density routes.

The expanded OFC network will provide reliable communication for modern signalling systems, enabling faster data transmission between control rooms and trains. This directly supports real-time monitoring and emergency responses.
