Mixer S.p.A. has developed rubber-based compounds for cables under the trademark EKOPREN®, designed to meet a wide range of requirements for different applications and operating environments. All of the EKOPREN compounds operate at a temperature between 90-105°C for both single-core or multicore cables, and are compliant with national, international, and US standards like CEI 20-13, IEC 60502, and UL 1072, respectively.

Across power distribution systems, performance is increasingly shaped by how components respond to operating conditions. In this landscape, Mixer S.p.A. developed rubber-based compounds for cables under the trademark EKOPREN®, designed to meet a wide range of requirements for different applications and operating environments.
Nowadays, medium voltage (MV) cable systems play an essential role in power distribution and electrification infrastructure. Among the various insulation materials available, rubber-based compounds, especially elastomeric systems such as EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber) and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), are gaining momentum thanks to their flexibility especially at low temperatures, thermal stability (continuous operation up to ~ 90 – 105 °C), and excellent dielectric properties.

Traditionally used in standard MV power cables, these rubber-based solutions have demonstrated remarkable versatility and reliability in more demanding applications such as wind turbines and data centers. In both contexts, they offer a unique combination of dielectric strength and thermal stability, ensuring consistent operation even under fluctuating loads. Their ability to handle thermal stress contributes to preserving efficiency while reducing the risk of material degradation.
In wind turbines, EPR cables are particularly valued for their exceptional flexibility and resistance to mechanical stress, enabling them to withstand continuous torsion, vibration, and environmental exposure, including salt, moisture, and UV radiation, especially in offshore installations. In data centers, the same flexibility facilitates easier installation in confined spaces and complex routing layouts, reducing mechanical strain and improving system reliability.

HFFR/LSZH compounds are witnessing the fastest growth due to fire safety regulations. XLPO compounds are gaining acceptance in solar, EV, and industrial applications, while silicone and elastomeric compounds continue growing in specialized high-performance applications.
In response to these diverse applications, Mixer S.p.A. developed EKOPREN® rubber-based compounds both leaded and lead-free, designed to be employed as insulation materials. Over the years, the R&D department has carefully investigated and finely tuned its solutions to perform under continuous bending and twisting conditions typical of dynamic components. All of the EKOPREN® compounds meet the specifications for 90°C and 105°C operating temperature for both single-core or multicore cables and are compliant with national, international, and US standards like CEI 20-13, IEC 60502, and UL 1072, respectively.
