HFCL plans to invest INR 950 crore to enhance optical fibre cable production capacity over a period of next two years.

Mr. Mahendra Nahata, Managing Director, HFCL, said that there is a huge demand for optical fibre cables in the data centre segment, especially in the US, which is driving growth for the industry.

He emphasized that the company is expanding its manufacturing capacities of fibres, fibre optic cables, as well as backward integration of preforms, the primary raw material used in optical fibre production. The total capex includes preform production which is about INR 580 crore. The company plans to increase its optical fibre capacity to 40 million fibre-route kilometres (rkm) from 30 million rkm per year.
