NKT has completed a EUR 50 million expansion of its Esposende factory in Portugal, strengthening its production capacity and capabilities for power cables rated from 1 kV to 225 kV to support Europe’s energy transition.

NKT has completed a EUR 50 million investment to expand and upgrade its power cable factory in Esposende, Portugal. The project includes new production lines and equipment, new Catenary Continuous Vulcanisation (CCV) capabilities and enhanced testing facilities, strengthening the site’s medium- and high-voltage cable manufacturing capabilities.

The expansion has added more than 150 employees, bringing the site’s total workforce to 580. Following the inauguration on October 20, 2026, the factory will enter a ramp-up phase, with the new capacity and capabilities expected to become operational gradually over the coming months.

The investment follows NKT’s acquisition of Portuguese cable manufacturer SolidAl in June 2024 and supports the company’s efforts to strengthen its European manufacturing footprint amid growing demand for power cables driven by electrification and renewable energy integration.
