Vidya Metal Manufacturing Company Private Limited (VMI Group), India’s largest manufacturer of super-enamelled aluminium winding wires, today announced that its installed capacity for aluminium winding wires and strips has reached 25,000 tonnes per annum (TPA), up from 18,000 TPA in early 2025. The increase follows the commissioning of the group’s new facility at Bandapur, Rajasthan. Alongside its aluminium capacity, the group produces about 12,000 TPA of copper products across its seven plants.

The expansion responds to demand from India’s transformer, motor, inverter and switchgear manufacturers, where aluminium is displacing copper in windings as OEMs balance rising copper prices against the need to scale output for grid strengthening and renewable integration.

“Every distribution transformer, every solar inverter and every motor that India adds needs winding wire, and aluminium is the metal that lets OEMs grow without their raw-material cost running away from them,” said Abhinav Goyal, Group Director, VMI Group. “At 25,000 TPA we can commit volumes and delivery schedules to the largest OEM programmes in the country while holding the enamel quality and dimensional consistency our customers have relied on since 1989.”

VMI Group supplies enamelled aluminium round wires and rectangular strips, paper-covered (DPC) conductors, fibreglass-covered conductors, aluminium and copper bus bars and flats, copper rods and foils from plants at Bhiwadi, Chopanki, Pathredi and Bandapur in Rajasthan, Manesar in Haryana, Daman, and Jammu. Its customers include BHEL, Tata Power, Havells India, HPL Electric & Power, Toshiba, Livguard Energy and Bajaj Group, along with transformer and inverter OEMs across India. Group companies hold BIS certification (IS 13730) and approvals from BHEL, PGCIL and Indian Railways (RDSO).
