Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder for the inter-regional (NR-WR) transmission system strengthening project, aimed at easing the load on the 765 kV Vindhyachal–Varanasi D/c line. The project will be executed on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis, with the letter of intent issued on September 16, 2025.

The plan includes a new 765 kV sub-station at Prayagraj, along with 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The initiative will enhance power transfer capacity, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and improve grid reliability.
