Premix, LyondellBasell and Maillefer Join Forces to Launch Polypropylene-Based Power Cable Solution

The joint solution offers key benefits for power cable manufacturers looking to future-proof their production. Premix will contribute its expertise in conductive polymers with PRE-ELEC® PP18220, LYB will support the solution with Catalloy Hifax CA 7910A and Maillefer will ensure process reliability and production efficiency with multipurpose extrusion lines.

Premix, LyondellBasell (LYB) and Maillefer have joined forces to deliver a technically advanced and recyclable power cable system, combining high-performance polypropylene materials, state-of-the-art compounding and leading cable manufacturing technology. Together, the three companies offer a robust, compatible PP-based solution for MV and HV cable insulation and semiconductive screens, providing an alternative to traditional XLPE systems.

Premix will contribute its expertise in conductive polymers with PRE-ELEC® PP18220, a semiconductive PP compound tailored for MV and HV cable screens. It will deliver excellent carbon black dispersion, stable conductivity and a flexural modulus aligned with PP insulation, ensuring compatibility and reliable performance.

LYB will support the solution with Catalloy Hifax CA 7910A, a polypropylene insulation material (PP-TPO) that provides outstanding mechanical and thermal properties. Its consistency and ease of processing make it well-suited for advanced cable insulation.

Maillefer will ensure process reliability and production efficiency with multipurpose extrusion lines. Their advanced line technologies — including both horizontal and catenary CV systems — offer precise temperature control and optimized cooling to minimize shrinkback ensure uniform insulation layer and optimal cable core quality.
