Fluoropolymer insulation such as Teflon, PFA, FEP etc. – chosen with intensive research underlines the importance of stability and reliability. These cables can handle an extensive variety of extremes – excessively challenging temperatures, radiation, and high frequency communication. Processing fluoropolymers is quite different from normal compounds like PVC, XLPE, XLPO, etc. These fluoropolymers –Teflon, PFA, FEP etc. – are extremely corrosive, have high processing temperature and higher temperature resistance, they do not flow like regular polymers, they are highly pressure sensitive, have very high draw down ratio and have a very narrow processing window. Therefore, a normal PVC or XLPO extruder cannot be adapted to extrude these compounds. The extruder design for such compounds was built up from Royle’s data base of over a century of building similar critical machines.
Possessing capability to manufacture such extrusion machinery is a huge achievement at Royle’s manufacturing facility in India.
