Hindalco Industries Ltd. announces a INR 21,000 crore expansion of its aluminium smelter in Odisha and commissions flat rolled products (FRP) and battery-grade aluminium foil facilities.

Hindalco, part of the Aditya Birla Group, flagged a INR 21,000 crore for 3.6 lakh TPA expansion of its aluminium smelter at the Aditya Aluminium complex in Sambalpur, Odisha.

Alongside, the company has commissioned a 1.7 lakh TPA flat-rolled products (FRP) and battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing unit, built at INR 4,500 crore, marking India’s first dedicated battery foil facility designed to support up to 100 GWh of lithium-ion cell production.

These projects were inaugurated by Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi and are part of a broader INR 37,000 crore investment programme in the state, advancing domestic capabilities in high-value aluminium products and supporting electric mobility and energy storage sectors.
