Prysmian and Aurubis have signed their largest agreement to date for the long-term supply of copper wire rod, strengthening copper supply security amid rising demand from electrification, power infrastructure and digital networks.

Under the agreement, Aurubis will supply copper wire rod to Prysmian on a long-term basis, supporting the cable manufacturer’s raw material requirements across its operations. The agreement is designed to provide Prysmian with greater supply security and flexibility as demand for copper continues to rise across power grids, renewable energy, electrification and digital infrastructure.

Aurubis currently produces copper wire rod containing approximately 36% recycled material, with a carbon footprint significantly below the global industry average. Its four copper rod plants across Europe provide Prysmian with supply flexibility and proximity to key markets.
According to Mr. Alberto Boffelli, Chief Operating Officer, Prysmian, the agreement is intended to provide reliable, flexible and increasingly sustainable copper supply while strengthening Europe’s access to a material critical to its energy and digital infrastructure. Mr. Toralf Haag, CEO, Aurubis, described it as the largest contract between the two companies and a milestone in their long-standing partnership.

The companies said the agreement will help secure materials required for electrification, energy infrastructure and digital networks, while supporting the resilience and competitiveness of Europe’s industrial supply chain.
