Rs. 2,600 crore power distribution project launched in Odisha

October 9, 2013

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the Odisha distribution system strengthening project as part of the plan to provide uninterrupted and quality power to the people of the state.

The chief minister said the state government would invest Rs. 2,600 crore for construction of 500 new 33/11 kV sub-stations under the flagship infrastructure development project. The project would cover all the 30 districts with priority focus on rural and semi-urban areas. “We have a robust transmission system with minimum transmission loss and Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited is rated as one of the high-performing transmission utilities in the country for its transmission efficiency,” Naveen Patnaik said.

The chief minister said that strengthening of the transmission system has already gained momentum in the last two to three years and around Rs. 5,000 crore is being invested in construction of new grid sub-stations and transmission lines in the current Five Year Plan. This would cater to the demand of discoms as well as the evacuation need of the new power plants.
