Corning Incorporated has announced its plans of expanding the manufacturing capacity for optical fibre cables. Based on its longstanding partnership with AT&T, the company has decided to increase its production and seeks to fulfill the enormous demand for optical cable services.

Corning is going to construct an all-new cable manufacturing facility in Gilbert, Arizona, precisely located in the Greater Phoenix region. The facility is expected to provide approximately 250 jobs and extend the company’s strategic investments in the optical fibre and cable industry.

The upcoming plant is a part of the company’s latest investment in its series of investments in optical fibre and cable manufacturing. There has been a total investment of more than USD 500 million since 2020. These expansions almost double Corning’s ability to serve the USA cable market. Public as well as private investments in broadband, 5G, and the cloud have contributed to accelerating a large, multi-year wave of growth for fibre-based networks – and Corning, as the global pioneer in the field of passive optical communications, is uniquely positioned to support these network constituents.

The Arizona facility is expected to open by the year 2024. It is going to be the westernmost U.S. manufacturing site for optical cable the industry has ever seen – allowing Corning to serve the ever- growing demand in both U.S. and Canada.

About the investment in the plant, Mr. John Stankey, Chief Executive Officer, AT&T said that this investment is indeed a significant step forward for the country and also for building world-class broadband networks that will in-turn help narrow the USA’s digital divide.

He further added that the new facility is going to provide additional optical cable capacity in order to meet the record-breaking demand the industry is witnessing for fast, reliable connectivity. He also mentioned that they are also working with Corning to create several training programs to equip the upcoming generation of technicians with the necessary skills to build the networks that will expand high-speed internet access to millions of users.
