11 News 2A part of mining group Vedanta Resources, Sterlite Technologies, expects to almost double its order book in a year backed by the growth in broadband infrastructure in the country as well as in overseas markets. Based on a mix of global volumes especially from China, Brazil, and Europe, as well as on Indian telcos’ aggressive adoption of a fiber strategy for the delivery of reliable services, the company estimates to take the order book of Rs 2,700 Crore to approximately Rs 7,000 Crore. For the last five years, Sterlite is growing at 28 percent compounded annually and is currently doing proofs of concept, undertaking trials, which according to the top executive, is expected to add up to nearly Rs 100 crore in its order books immediately.

The company is also investing around Rs 300 Crore to increase the annual fiber production capacity from nearly 22 million to 30 million km. The fiber major has also supplied nearly 50,000 km of fiber in phase-I of the government’s ambitious BharatNet initiative. Also, Sterlite supplies optical fiber to the country’s top carriers including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to enable their ambitious fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network roll outs. Additionally, it is also investing to create a ‘centre for smart networks’ in Gurgaon, to showcase applications and technologies that were not commercially deployed in the country.
