India to Fiberise 65 percent Telecom Towers, Deploy 12 lakh Towers for 5G Preparation

With India ramping up 5G rollout across the country, the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) recently shared the changes required to meet the increasing demand of large bandwidth and ultra-low latency. Mr. T.R. Dua, DIPA’s Director General shared that 65 per cent of the telecom towers need to be fiberised and 12 lakh towers need to be deployed by FY 2023-24. Currently, 36 percent of telecom towers have been fiberised and nearly 7,50,000 towers are deployed in India.

As a part of welcoming 5G across India, the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) shared that 65 percent of the telecom towers require fiberisation and 12 lakh towers need to be deployed by FY 2023-24 in order to meet the growing demand of large bandwidth and ultra-low latency. According to current statistics,as per DIPA’s Director General Mr. T.R. Dua, 36 percent of telecom towers have been fiberised and nearly 7,50,000 towers have been deployed in India.

“Despite proactive support from the government and Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the telecom infrastructure providers are still facing hurdles in faster infrastructure deployment of 5G with issues pertaining to discoms not following the 5G rollout policy in alignment with the State Central RoW Policy and facility for bulk RoW permission since number of such poles, which may be used for 5G cell deployment, may be in thousands,” Dua elaborated.
